Rafa Snubbed Owen Opportunity

Rafa Benitez has said he considered signing Michael Owen but came to the conclusion the striker would not command a regular first-team place.

The 29-year-old spent eight successful seasons at Anfield at the start of his career scoring 158 goals in all competitions.

Tevez nearing D-Day
Carlos Tevez faces an agonising choice between Manchester United and Manchester City over the next 48 hours. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has also talked to Tevez’s advisers, who are locked in talks with both Manchester clubs as they move to resolve the striker’s future. A late move by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has left the little Argentinian with a difficult choice, and the situation is further complicated by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti’s interest in Tevez. City have made a massive contract offer, thought to be around £6million a year. But yesterday Fergie made a long phone call to Tevez in an attempt to persuade him to stay at Old Trafford. United are ready to meet the asking price of around £22m, though they still want to pay in instalments where City are prepared to meet the fee in full.
