Papers: Tevez Decision Looms

16 06 2009

Tevez nearing D-Day
Carlos Tevez faces an agonising choice between Manchester United and Manchester City over the next 48 hours. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has also talked to Tevez’s advisers, who are locked in talks with both Manchester clubs as they move to resolve the striker’s future. A late move by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has left the little Argentinian with a difficult choice, and the situation is further complicated by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti’s interest in Tevez. City have made a massive contract offer, thought to be around £6million a year. But yesterday Fergie made a long phone call to Tevez in an attempt to persuade him to stay at Old Trafford. United are ready to meet the asking price of around £22m, though they still want to pay in instalments where City are prepared to meet the fee in full.

Papers: Tevez to Stay?

1 06 2009

‘Last chance’ to sign Tevez
Manchester United will attempt to agree a deal to sign Carlos Tevez at a meeting scheduled with his advisers later this week after indicating that they will now be willing to pay the £25.5 million price agreed two years ago. Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have all now, in principle, reached the asking price for the 25-year-old Argentine. However his adviser, Kia Joorabchian, the man who leads the group of investors who own the rights to Tevez, insists he will not enter into negotiations until June 10. Although Tevez has appeared certain to leave United, having failed to secure a permanent contract at the end of his two-year loan period, and having said his farewells to the rest of the squad following last week’s Champions League final, there is one last chance for United to secure a deal. City are proving to be the most eager bidders but Joorabchian has informed them that he will not hold talks until after the international programme has finished and, also, he has concluded negotiations with United.
